Division of Animal Housing and Welfare (1999-2006)

The Division of Animal Housing and Welfare at the Vetsuisse-Faculty of Bern was built in 1999 in the previous institute of animal breeding (later institute of animal genetics, nutrition and housing). The main topic was the housing and breeding of small pet animals. Further research was done about the housing of pet animals in animal shelters and pet shops, behaviour tests in dogs and housing of horses and zoo animals. The division kept large colonies of golden hamsters and budgerigars in its facilities.

At the end of 2006 the Division of Animal Housing and Welfare was closed. One of the projects on golden hamsters was financed until the end of 2007 by the Federal Veterinary Office (FVO) and several publications were finished afterwords.
